Take Care Of Your Gut!

We have all heard of the phrase “trust your gut” but what is equally important is taking care of your gut. In the past decade, an increase of research studies has proven that gut health is critical to overall health.

Everything we eat and drink passes through the gut by way of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The GI tract is lined with millions of bacteria that are comprised of both beneficial and harmful bacteria. It is the predominance of the good bacteria, known as probiotic bacteria, that ensures good health and prevents diseases of the gut and other organs in the body.

Probiotics do several things that contribute to good health and immunity. Their most basic function is to fight harmful foreign substances that enter the body by detoxifying them and easing their elimination. Probiotics also prevent the growth of harmful bacteria.

Probiotics naturally occur in certain foods such as kefir and live culture yogurt and in fermented vegetables, like kimchi and sauerkraut. Over the last few years, a fermented tea called Kombucha has risen in popularity and has been making waves as the latest go-to health beverage.

Lifestyle also plays a crucial role in gut health. It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle with plenty of exercise and good sleep. Stress and a sedentary lifestyle have adverse affects on your gut. A diet rich in high fibre foods, such as whole grains, beans, fruit, and vegetables is also important for optimal gut health and overall wellness.

Maintaining a healthy gut will help to boost your immune system, improve your digestion, reduce stress and raise energy levels.

**We will be offering complementary Kombucha drinks at our Annual Women’s Wellness event on November 30 to registered guests, so be sure to register so you don’t miss out!
